Nullification is Beginning

You will not be surprised to learn that with a few honorable exceptions, high-profile TV and radio have so far shied away from the recent wave of interest in State nullification of unconstitutional federal laws. (Need I point out that Judge Andrew Napolitano has been his usual fearless self, even as others have run away from the topic?)  But the idea has begun to trickle out anyway. Jeff Taylor, who describes himself as being more on the left than the right, managed to bring the topic of nullification to a Huffington Post audience.

Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico, is speaking at a major nullification rally on October 10. Martha Dean, the GOP candidate for Attorney General in Connecticut, says she supports legislative efforts to nullify unconstitutional federal laws. There are plenty more examples. State and local political candidates are beginning to discuss the forbidden subject. Everywhere I go around the country I’m hearing that nullification initiatives are going to be pushed seriously in upcoming State legislative sessions. The television hosts who have been AWOL so far can go on pretending this isn’t happening for only so long.

The Tenth Amendment Center, in tandem with WeRefuse.com and a bunch of local and national co-sponsors, is launching a tour of major cities beginning tomorrow in Fort Worth, with the aim of forcing State nullification—Thomas Jefferson’s doctrine that States must refuse to allow the enforcement of unconstitutional federal laws—into the political discussion by means of a series of high-profile events. I’ll be speaking at some of them myself.

There is a potentially huge audience for this idea.

What has impressed me about the smaller markets where I’ve been featured so far in promotion of my new book Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century on nullification is how enthusiastically the idea has been received. I figured I had an uphill battle ahead of me, promoting an idea which, no matter its distinguished pedigree, lies well outside the so-called mainstream (i.e., neither Wolf Blitzer nor David Gergen supports it). Why, if it’s not mentioned on or endorsed by either MSNBC or the Weekly Standard, are you sure we’re even allowed to think it? Yet host after host has discussed the issue sympathetically and matter-of-factly, treating it as an interesting and promising new possibility.

When Michael Boldin, founder of the Tenth Amendment Center, spoke at a Tea Party rally on April 15 (part 1, part 2—see videos below) he at first left the crowd confused. What, he wasn’t interested in lawsuits against the federal government, and he wasn’t so sure elections would fix things, either? Boldin then mentioned the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions of 1798, to complete silence. By the end, he has made his case so persuasively that the crowd is cheering like crazy. This is what I mean—once people who genuinely want to roll back the federal government hear about the idea, they embrace it. Now it’s just a matter of spreading the word.

When I was on a cable news program in June unrelated to nullification, the cover of my (at that time) not-yet-released book was flashed on the screen for several seconds. Just flashing it on the screen, without even discussing its contents, was enough to catapult it to the Amazon Top 100 for two days. Now if only I’d had just five minutes to discuss it. Stories like these are why I think we could be on the verge of something important.

We already know why the guardians of allowable opinion oppose nullification, and it isn’t because they’re actually losing sleep over what South Dakota might do. Even the worst emotional hypochondriac doesn’t seriously believe the biggest dangers of 2010 are coming from Salt Lake City and Boise. There are quite a few vested interests that would like to see the federal gravy train continue undisturbed, and uppity citizens with Jeffersonian ideas appropriately suppressed.

To be sure, it is doubtful that governments can stay limited over the long run; they have no interest in remaining limited and every incentive to expand. At the same time, not all regimes are equally oppressive, and some political structures give the tyrants a tougher go of it than others. Hence our recourse to Jefferson and nullification. Meanwhile, the conservative establishment offers only pretty speeches and promises. No, scratch that—we don’t even get the pretty speeches anymore, and whether you believe the promises is a test of your IQ. The really cheeky, cutting-edge thinkers go so far as to suggest a balanced-budget amendment, the boilerplate conservative promise of the past 30 years. Even if such a thing were to pass, all such amendments include override clauses that permit three-fifths of Congress to go ahead with an unbalanced budget if sufficiently grave conditions make it seem necessary. Do you get the funny feeling they’d make liberal use of that provision?

Something significant is beginning this weekend. Lots of informed people will make a stand in the name of a doctrine that official Left and Right despise, and which until now has been known only in caricature where it has not been suppressed entirely. The idea is already reaching the general public even in the face of almost complete silence on the part of those who posture as relentless foes of the puppet and Washington, D.C. Also worth noting is that Tea Party groups, which the usual suspects are trying to neuter into insignificance, are defying their overlords and participating as co-sponsors. We are not supposed to do this. We are doing it anyway.  Be a part of it.

Sowell Puts Facts to It!

post by Thomas Sowell’s Political Fables on Perspectives

[Yes, many people are stating this, but Sowell has to have put it in the best order. Thanks Mr. Sowell...you rock!]

The puppet boldly proclaims, “The buck stops here!” But, whenever his policies are criticized, he acts as if the buck stopped with George W. Bush. The party line that we are likely to be hearing from now until the November elections is that the puppet inherited the big federal budget deficits and that he has to “clean up the mess” left in the economy by the Republicans. This may convince those who want to be convinced, but it will not stand up under scrutiny.

No President of the United States can create either a budget deficit or a budget surplus. All spending bills originate in the House of Representatives and all taxes are voted into law by Congress. Democrats controlled both houses of Congress before the puppet became president. The deficit he inherited was created by the Congressional Democrats, including the puppet, who did absolutely nothing to oppose the runaway spending. He was one of the biggest of the big spenders.

The last time the federal government had a budget surplus, Bill Clinton was president, so it was called “the Clinton surplus.” But Republicans controlled the House of Representatives, where all spending bills originate, for the first time in 40 years. It was also the first budget surplus in more than a quarter of a century. The only direct power that any president has that can affect deficits and surpluses is the power to veto spending bills. President Bush did not veto enough spending bills but the puppet and his fellow Democrats in control of Congress were the ones who passed the spending bills.

Today, with the puppet in the White House, allied with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in charge in Congress, the national debt is a bigger share of the national output than it has been in more than half a century. And its share is projected to continue going up for years to come, becoming larger than national output in 2012. Having created this scary situation, the puppet now says, “Don’t give in to fear. Let’s reach for hope.” The voters reached for hope when they elected the puppet. The fear comes from what he has done since taking office. “The worst thing we could do is to go back to the very same policies that created this mess in the first place,” he said recently. “In November, you’re going to have that choice.”

Another political fable is that the current economic downturn is due to not enough government regulation of the housing and financial markets. But it was precisely the government regulators, under pressure from politicians, who forced banks and other lending institutions to lower their standards for making mortgage loans. These risky loans, and the defaults that followed, were what set off a chain reaction of massive financial losses that brought down the whole economy.

Was this due to George W. Bush and the Republicans? Only partly. Most of those who pushed the lowering of mortgage lending standards were Democrats—notably Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Christopher Dodd, though too many Republicans went along. At the heart of these policies were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who bought huge amounts of risky mortgages, passing the risk on from the banks that lent the money (and made the profits) to the taxpayers who were not even aware that they would end up paying in the end.

When President Bush said in 2004 that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be reined in, 76 members of the House of Representatives issued a statement to the contrary. These included Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Charles Rangel. If we are going to talk about “the policies that created this mess in the first place,” let’s at least get the facts straight and the names right. The current policies of the puppet administration are a continuation of the same reckless policies that brought on the current economic problems—all in the name of “change.” Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are still sacred cows in Washington, even though they have already required the biggest bailouts of all. Why? Because they allow politicians to direct vast sums of money where it will do politicians the most good, either personally or in terms of buying votes in the next election.

Republicans Bringing Down The Puppet

post by Jim Meyers on Newsmax on Sept 7, 2010

Veteran Republican strategist Ed Gillespie tells Newsmax that a “very big wave” of voter dissatisfaction is going to crash down on the the puppet White House when Americans vote in GOP candidates in November’s midterm elections. He also says no Democrat running for office anywhere in the country is a safe bet to win, given the level of opposition to the agenda of the the puppet administration and the Democratic-controlled Congress, and believes that Republicans can win the Senate as well as the House.

Gillespie was a White House counselor during the George W. Bush administration and a longtime top aide to House Majority Leader Dick Armey. He also served as chairman of the Republican National Committee. In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV, Gillespie, declares, “I think there’s a tidal wave building out there in response to the the puppet administration and the Pelosi-Reid Congress’ overreach into our economy, job-killing policies, excessive taxation, and rampant spending and debt. “And I think on November 2 voters are going to send a very strong message. I think Republicans will take control of the House of Representatives, get close in the United States Senate, pick up eight to 10 governorships and probably about 10 state legislative chambers around the country. It’s going to be a very big wave that comes crashing down on this White House.”

In New York, Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand is being challenged by two Democrats in next Tuesday’s primary, and three Republicans are running for her seat. Asked if a Republican can defeat Gillibrand if she wins the primary, Gillespie responds, “New York’s a tough state for a Republican to carry. But if we’re going to do it, this would be the year. When you have a 10-point advantage in the Congressional generic ballot in the Gallup survey for this midterm, which is the largest advantage for Republicans ever in the history of the Gallup survey of midterm election voters, anything can happen. That’s true in New York as well.”

Similarly, either of the two GOP candidates for governor in New York, former Rep. Rick Lazio and tea party favorite Carl Paladino, can win in November given the current political climate, according to Gillespie. He adds, “I don’t think any Democrat running anywhere in the country right now can be considered to be a safe bet.” In New Hampshire, seven candidates are vying next Tuesday for the GOP nomination to replace Judd Gregg in the Senate. “I think whoever the Republican to emerge in the New Hampshire primary is going to be the odds-on favorite to win that seat,” Gillespie tells Newsmax. “The Democratic nominee Paul Hodes is a down-the-line liberal who favors more federal spending, higher taxes, massive debt, supports the puppet agenda, and voted with Nancy Pelosi in the U.S. House. I don’t think New Hampshire voters are in much of a mood to send someone with that record to the Senate.”

Asked if Congressman and former Gov. Mike Castle is concerned about tea party favorite Christine O’Donnell’s challenge in next Tuesday’s Republican primary for the Senate seat from Delaware, Gillespie said, “Castle is concerned. But that [race] might turn out like Arizona where [incumbent Sen. John] McCain was able to beat back a challenge from [J.D.] Hayworth, a tea party favorite.” And in Wisconsin, where Ron Johnson and two other candidates are seeking the Republican nomination to oppose Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold, Gillespie says, “Feingold’s seat is definitely in play, and my sense is that Johnson has the momentum going into that primary. That is one of the seats that a year ago Democrats were taking for granted, had it as a solid Democratic hold. It’s not. I think it’s very much in play.”

He also cited Washington State, where Dino Rossi is leading in the polls over incumbent Democrat Patty Murray, and California “where Carly Fiorina is doing very well against incumbent Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer. The playing field is very broad for Republicans to be on offense.” The California, Wisconsin, and Washington State seats were taken for granted a year ago, along with Illinois and Delaware, and “winning those Senate races and holding our own could actually result I think in a possible Republican takeover of the Senate as well as the House.”

The Puppet Disgracing Military Soldiers!

post by Dan Morris, Denton, TX

[I sure would be interested knowing how other military, present and retired, feel on this. Please comment if you're military of any American sort.]

During the evening of August 31, 2010, I sat attentively before my TV screen expecting the puppet to trumpet the successes of our military and honor the men and women who served, sacrificed, and gave their best for our country in Iraq. Even though the speech provided a few gratifying moments for satisfying my expectations, it fell short of the mark. Every service member gives something and some give everything, to include their lives. The entire speech should have been about honor, service, and sacrifice, and nothing else. The President is the Commander-In-Chief; the highest of leaders over our military. In my opinion, he failed miserably as a leader.

After serving in the U.S. Marines, I completed another 19 years in the Army. I have certainly heard my share of speeches during both wartime and peace; most moved me to tears of pride. However and sadly, while serving in the Marines, I heard a battalion commander make a comment that made my skin crawl with anger and disbelief. He said, “I would rather lose three Marines than one piece of equipment.” Morale fell like a rock throughout the battalion as the so-called leader put more value into material assets than human life. I think Marines only followed this commander out of curiosity and the only thing that kept them going was knowing that they were serving God and Country in a proud Marine Corps.

The puppet had failed as a leader. When men and women offer their precious lives for a cause they deserve to know that their leaders hold them in the highest regard. The military is made up of more then equipment; for nothing works without the human beings that operate it. Last night, the puppet demonstrated that he has never attended even a small unit leadership class. Fancy words alone don’t make someone a leader, but, a good example does wonders to make others feel proud and appreciated as they give their loyalty.

When the puppet inserted his comments about the economy and how the war in Iraq hurt our economy by costing a trillion dollars, I bolted out of my chair, eyes wide with disbelief. For me, his words were tantamount to what I experienced as a young Marine so many years ago during the Vietnam conflict, as noted in the above example of poor leadership. How can a leader praise those he leads on one hand and then, in his next breath, tell them that the cost of their service has hurt our nation on the other hand? His comment was nothing short of a punch in the gut for all those who have served. Let’s not dishonor those who serve by attaching guilt to their service. The speech was not on the economy; it was on ending combat operations in Iraq while praising those who served. The puppet’s remarks were not on topic and they were a cheap shot at President Bush. His points should have been undivided with a tone of accomplishment.

Position alone does not make anyone a good leader; the puppet’s example last night has proven that. By injecting his political stance into a speech honoring military service and sacrifice was dishonoring and disrespectful. I hope enough critical reviews pour in to make his palms sweat with disgrace. Although, I doubt that will happen since his arrogance and Socialism philosophy won’t allow any semblance of truth or patriotism to surface. Routinely, he is providing one nail after another for building his political coffin. One term in the oval office is all this country can take of this puppet.  Additionally, there is no mystery over why there is such discontent and lack of confidence in the puppet among the military. I wonder how history will record his leadership during such a challenging time. Hopefully, the damage he has done can be righted and our Republic can be restored. I’m sure my points here will be wasted on the collective conscience of the progressive left. May God help heal our nation as He blesses each and every one of us.

Adhereing to Moslem Ways

post by Sheppard Smith, Fox News.

[It just keeps getting worse. Now do you see. Now are you getting prepared.]

Haven’t been able to verify story about two American Arabs at Blockbuster, but Dr Jim Murk is an expert on the middle east. Interesting…

Sheppard Smith, Fox  News— “If you check the puppet’s last trip over-seas, his wife left just after their visit to France. She  has yet to accompany him to any Arab country. Think about it.  Why is the puppet’s wife returning to the States when ‘official’ trips to foreign  countries generally include the First Lady?”

Here’s one thought on the  matter—While in a Blockbuster renting videos I came across a video called The puppet. There were two men standing next to me and we talked about the puppet. These guys were Arabs, so I asked them why they thought the puppet’s wife headed home  following the puppet’s recent visit to France instead of traveling on to Saudi Arabia and Turkey with her husband. They told me she could not go to Saudi Arabia, Turkey or Iraq. I said, “Why not,(?) Laura Bush went to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Dubai.”  They said that the puppet is a Moslem and therefore he is not allowed to bring his wife into countries that adhere to Sharia Law.

  • I thought it interesting that two American Arabs at Blockbuster believe that our President is a Moslem, who follows a strict Islamic creed.  They also said that’s the reason he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. It was a signal to the Moslem world, acknowledging his religion.

For further consideration, here is a  response from Dr. Jim Murk, a Middle Eastern Scholar and expert on Islam. This is his explanation of what the Arab American’s were saying. “An orthodox Moslem man would never take his wife on a politically oriented trip to any nation which practices Sharia law, particularly Saudi Arabia where the Wahhabi sect is dominant. This is true and it is why the puppet left the wife in Europe. She will stay home when he visits Arab countries. He  knows Moslem protocol; this includes, bowing to the Saudi King. the puppet is regarded as a Moslem in the Arab world, because he was born to a Moslem father; he acknowledged his Moslem faith with George Stephanopoulus. Note that he downplays his involvement with Christianity, by not publicly joining a Christian church in D.C. And occasionally attending the chapel for services at Camp David. He also played down the fact that America is a Christian country and said, unbelievably, that it was one of the largest Moslem nations in the world, which is nonsense. He has publicly taken the side of the Palestinians in the conflict with Israel and he ignored the National Day of Prayer, something no other President has ever done. He is bad news! He conceals his true faith to the detriment of the American people.”—Jim Murk, Doctor of Philosophy in Middle Eastern Culture  & Religion.

Actions speak louder than words. Another interesting item regarding Sharia Law. Why has the puppet insisted that the U.S. Attorney General hold the trials of the 911 Moslem Terrorists in Civilian Courts as Common Criminals  instead of as Terrorists who attacked the United States of America? If the Moslem Terrorists are tried in Military Tribunals, convicted and sentenced to death, by LAW, the puppet, as President of the United States, would be required to sign their Death Warrants. He  would not be required to sign the death warrants if they are sentenced to death by a Civilian Court. Recently, Moslem Jihadist, Army Major Hassan slaughtered non-Moslem, soldiers at Ft. Hood, Texas rather than go to Afghanistan and be a part of anything that could lead to the deaths of  fellow Moslems. He stated that Moslem ‘could not and should not kill fellow Moslems.’ Is the motive for the puppet’s insistence on civilian trials, to make sure he doesn’t have to sign the death warrants for the Moslem Terrorists? Why would he, as President of the United States, not sign the death warrants for Moslem Terrorists who attacked the United States and murdered over 3,000 U. S. Citizens on  9/11? Could it be that he is forbidden by his religion to authorize the execution of Moslems? Think about that! Open your  eyes, ears and mind to who the puppet is, how he behaves and what he is doing.

November Will Tell the Tale

post by Linda J. Burton Consultant, Sales and Marketing Management 713-582-4688, submitted by Naval Commander Jerry Wilson

[You best be prepared. Keep reading this blog. There are military people commenting here and passing on these post. When military commanders and high ranking officials say these things, you best believe we are headed for a revolution. November will tell the tell.]

The following report is from Linda Burton who was a delegate at the State Republican Convention. What she said about the convention and how it will affect Texans.

Dear Friends and Fellow Republicans OR  limited government friends—I am exhausted from a drive back this evening from Dallas but wanted to share some important information with you about the upcoming November elections and the Texas Republican Convention. The Republican Convention was huge—5,000 delegates and over 2,500 alternates with most of our Congressional Texans in attendance. We heard from everyone Gov. Perry on down through Railroad Commissioners and the all Republican Texas Supreme Court Justices. Greg Abbott was awesome. He is going after ObamaCare with a vengeance plus all States Rights matters and border security. I had an opportunity to thank him at a break and also thanked Jerry Patterson for the help he has given Galveston.

Michelle Bauchmann was the keynote speaker at the Friday banquet and if you have the chance to hear her in person do not miss it. This lady is a pit bull, a tax attorney and is the number one target of Nancy Pelosi—so if you can send her money for her campaign in Minnesota do it. She is on the top of the hit list of the puppet’s thugs. Haley Barbour, Mississippi’s outstanding governor spoke today and reminded us all that we can’t wait for 2012. We must take back our country in November. This is the most important November election of our lifetimes. These people in Washington hate Texas. I am not joking about this. Congressman after Congressman spoke to that with concrete examples. We are the beacon of free enterprise, balanced budgets, and we are a Republican State. The puppet is not funding NASA, is going to demand that when federal dollars are spent on things like our South Texas nuclear power plant the workers must be union. I am confident Greg Abbott will sue over this. The puppet needs to understand that his Chicago scare tactics will not work in Texas.

The puppet’s Cap and Trade policies are aimed squarely at Texas’ energy business. Our party Vice Chairman at the beginning of the convention, Dr. Robin Armstrong, an African American physician (who graduated from UTMB) says that global warming is a joke—we breathe out carbon dioxide—So count to 10 and hold your breath to save the planet!! In addition, our convention pledged to stand with Israel. We have never had a President sell our number one ally in the Middle East down the river but the puppet is doing just that.

I write this with just one hope. Even if you have never been politically active, please please get engaged this year. We need your votes. We need you to get friends motivated. We must take back our country now. 2012 is too late. Pelosi, Reid and their cronies must be voted out of office in November. We have a strong slate of candidates. No Democrat seat is unchallenged. That includes Shelia Jackson Lee, Gene Greene and Lloyd Doggett. Do this for your children, grandchildren and for the Country. Democracies go through a predictable transition and we are in the period of apathy. If we don’t turn this around now, our liberties will evaporate before we even know it happened.

God Bless You and God Bless Texas! I forgot one more point. One of the members of the Congressional delegation who is a small businessman stated that most members of Congress did not know the difference between gross and net revenue. No wonder they are taxing us to death. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs stated that the puppet did not talk to the CEO of BP because its Board of 12 people would have to be involved and he did not want to talk to 12 people. This is truly appalling and is why my daughter said to me, “Mom, what do you expect, it is amateur hour in Washington.” We are in the middle of a communist revolution and few in the U.S. can actually see it for what it truly is. The US is now on the path of financial destruction. The Constitution has been shredded and individual human rights are being trampled.
