Democrats Running Scared

post by NewsMax.com, Oct. 29, 2010

The New York Times reported late Friday that “Democratic candidates have unleashed a last-minute paroxysm of spending” to defeat Republican candidates in key House races across the nation. The paper said that the last-ditch Democratic effort was being funded by ” huge expenditures from the Democratic campaign committee, which, as of mid-October, had more than twice the amount of money in the bank as the National Republican Congressional Committee.”

The Times detailed that the Democratic campaign committee spent $24 million in 68 of the 109 House races, “compared with the $12.5 million across 59 contests by its Republican counterpart.” The report continued—”On top of the party committee’s spending, Democratic-oriented outside groups, led by labor unions and others, outspent Republican-oriented groups in competitive House races, $7.4 million to $6.9 million, according to the Times analysis. Meanwhile, the Democratic House candidates outspent Republicans, $12.3 million to $7.7 million, on television in competitive races over the last week, based on data from Campaign Media Analysis Group.” Soft money for Democratic candidates has come from public employee unions. Last week the Wall Street Journal reported that such unions were pumping $88 million to save Democrats in contested races across the nation.

[Can you imagine this kind of money? Do you know how many people you can feed with $88 million? What does these unions have to do for the American people to decide they are no longer needed, and push for their disbandment? Just a thought.]

Another Robbery Underway

post by Lee Bellinger, Publisher Independent Living

[My commentary at the end of this post may get under your skin a bit. It may even piss you off. It is the intention. Go forth, yell back. I don't really care. I'm a Confederate! Proud one. Hear me roar!]

As the puppet's spending orgy sinks America deeper into financial turmoil, he is about to turn Uncle Sam's acute funding crisis into your problem.

In fact, the puppet’s Treasury and Labor Departments just held outrageous, executive branch hearings on nationalization of retirement accounts, and they are actively looking for the opportunity to ram this asset grab through. Your nest egg is in their cross-hairs; you know, to protect you from losing your own money. Congressional heavyweights such as Rep. George Miller (D-CA) have already held hearings on merging 401(k)s, IRAs, and other tax-advantaged private savings programs into the failed Social Security program. That’s why it’s absolutely vital you take a quick moment today to sign the Keep Obama’s Hands Off My Retirement Account petition to Congress.

In my 23+ years of exposing government attacks on assets for discerning Americans, trust me when I tell you that we all need to tell Congress in no uncertain terms—don’t let the puppet get his grubby hands into my retirement accounts!

Here’s what is going on. The cash-strapped the puppet administration’s unofficial 401(k) nationalization czar is utopian New School for Social Research academic Teresa Ghilarducci—who was dubbed by U.S. News and World Report as “the most dangerous woman in America” after she appeared before Congress to testify in favor of government seizing 401(k)s and other retirement assets.

The “most dangerous woman in America”—who helped the puppet rip off GM bond holders now wants your retirement money! Following her Congressional testimony at a 2008 hearing to begin ending 401(k) and IRA tax advantages, Ghilarducci admitted on conservative talk show host Wilbur Kirby’s KVI 570 show in Seattle the truth about the left’s scheme for gaining control of private retirement accounts“I’m just rearranging the tax breaks that are available now for the 401(k)s and spreading [here she paused briefly to consider her words] spreading the wealth…”

It is vital you sign our grassroots petition right away! The puppet administration officials and their leftist allies in Congress have zeroed in on over $15 trillion in 401(k)s, IRAs, 403(b)s, and other accounts—and only a grassroots bonfire of opposition will ultimately stop them. Why? Major State pension funds, state governments, and the entire federal entitlement program structure are on the verge of collapse and in need of bailouts due to collapsing tax revenues. This massive theft is underway—help me stop them!

In addition to the Congressional hearings referenced above—and an “automatic IRA” bill introduced in August by Senator John Kerry (D-MA)—the puppet’s bureaucrats are working furiously on new regulations (CFR, Part 1, RIN 1545-BJ04) to herd unsuspecting 401(k)/IRA holders’ money into government-approved investments, such as federal government debt. The mainstream media have totally blown off this story.

My name is Lee Bellinger, publisher of the nation’s fastest-growing financial and self-reliance intelligence newsletter for savvy, freedom-loving investors, Independent Living. My monthly intelligence advisory has become the largest newsletter of its type in America. Independent Living warned our readers well in advance about the housing bubble, the probable collapse of the banking system, and many other wealth-destroying threats.

[Okay, I buy this. Why would Bellinger scare us? For what reason? I signed his petition. It's all about control. You've read this opinion of mind time and time again on this blog. You have to open your eyes. I know...I know, you prefer drinking with your buddies, going to the camp every weekend. You prefer shopping, playing video games, watching your favorite shows on TV—anything but talking politics. Believe me, I know. I also know that you feel safe, secure, comfortable. Funny thing, so did those in Germany as Hitler, on the other side of the country, was perfecting his murdering art. Don't take life for granted. A message constantly told to me because I like my cigars. What about freedom? Shouldn't you take that for granted as well? Have you ever been in a situation where you were the boss, where you had the power to direct people and tell them what to do for a change? Do you remember how it felt? Thank of that feeling times ten. If you had that kind of power, would you give it up? History tells up that "no" you wouldn't, in fact, you would seek more. It's the means to an end. It's self-destruction at its best. Yes, you feel good for a while, but then it leads to lies, cover-ups, deception, and, sometimes, murder, to get to that bigger power. Washington is at this stage right now. Do you want to be on the other side of that kind of power? Just thought I'd ask.]

You need to get involved now—don’t be a sitting duck, Today, I am sounding the alarm because millions of Americans stand to lose trillions of their own dollars. I desperately need your help to stop them. Your assets and your financial future are directly on the line!

Sign our urgent petition to Congress right away. I am committed to sending at least 1 million petitions to Congress, talk show radio hosts, and the puppet Administration. Over the coming months, my national petition drive will touch millions of U.S. households. Our message—You will pay a political price if you even thing of stealing our 401(k)s, IRAs, and Retirements Accounts and dumping them into government bonds. Trust me when I tell you this is a winnable fight. Congress needs to be told in no uncertain terms that we will not let them turn our private savings into an ATM machine for spend-thrift politicians.

Don’t wait for this freight train to hit you. Make your voice heard now. Sign and submit your petition now, before a new financial crisis gives the puppet administration the cover it needs to ram this outrageous retirement nationalization scheme through! P.S. The puppet administration officials are desperately looking for new suckers to pay for their trillion dollar deficits. That’s why they want to nationalize our retirement accounts. We must stop them!

[Northern BS. Another robbery underway for sure. This is a good example of why the South needs to break away. American citizens should not have to fight for their retirement plans. The government had no business interfering in private industry and it has no business interfering in the retirement plans of private individuals. All that money take from us and handed over to corporations, you think we will ever see any of it? Do you really think their explanation of helping the citizen is fact? Do you really think you'll see your money again if you allow their hands further in your pocket?

I had a pissed off morning today that has connects here. God† does have funny ways of testing us and funny ways of opening our eyes to truth. Our electric company hired a tree cutting company to trim trees around the power lines. Well, these four tree-cutting trucks were blocking my drive way so I went to see what the problem was. Lord and behold! Four trucks, two people in each truck and only 1 could barely speak a word of English! All Mexicans. I raised all kinds of hell! My Christian morals went out the door. God† should just strike me down right now! I asked them all if they were legal. None were! I asked the one who could understand if he had a visa. Yes, he did (didn't see it) and had been working on it for 5 years. I asked him if he paid taxes, he first said yes. I asked him how since he needed a Social Security number to pay taxes. He then changed his mind. So, he's working in the United States, in Louisiana, and getting paid doing an American job and not paying taxes but enjoying the benefits our taxes provide. Then I asked if he got paid in cash or by check. By check he said. I asked him if he had a checking account. Yes. How about a savings account. Yes. My question—How in the hell can he have a checking and a savings account here in America without a Social Security card. Okay another one—How can he have a driver's license without a Social Security number. What makes him more special than me? I have to have a f...king Social Security number to do every freaking thing in this country. So, these foreign people come here and don't have to have one, use all our privileges and don't have the pay the price for them!

I made him call his boss and get him over here. He did. I made him really nervous, but I could see the others sitting on their trucks laughing. Laughing! The "boss" arrives, Oh! my God! an American. Why don't you have someone who speaks English on these trucks? I yell. Why don't you have Americans working for you? I yell. He calmly says that no American wants to work. But that's not all. There was another "boss" with less pull. He was the one sent to speak to me after this encounter. I guess the other one didn't want to risk my questioning again, or thought he was too good to answer them. Which ever, I had to face the other one. I ask him the same questions. For 3 years he had no crew, he responded, so his company went out of the country to find employees. Okay, how did you advertise for these jobs, I asked. Through the newspaper. A little fact, I get read the newspaper, in fact, I read all of them. No advertisements for this company. No posted signs on the store or recruiting in the high schools for young men to earn money. I have a young man fresh out of high school. He took a stock-boy job because there was nothing else offered. Oh another fact—as a former teacher, let me give you the truth—I have rarely seen a high school young man read a newspaper!

But that's not all. Yesterday, I encountered the phone-book delivery people. Guess? All Mexicans. Delivering our phone books! I was walking (exercise) at the time and near our trail is our little community sheriff station. The detective is a very good friend of mind. Why do they have Mexicans delivering our phone books, I ask. Because no American wants the job, he said.

So, let me get this straight. All of our tax money used to repair roads, pay Social Security to our sick and elderly, fix our parks, help us when we lose our jobs, etc. is given to corporations who f...ed up and was in a bind (I was in a bind recently and there was no government helping me!), without any normal citizen's approval. The government then deciding our health care is now a God†-given right and that they should now monitor it because they are the next-best thing to God† himself! Of course, this done without any normal citizen's approval. Then the government gives away our money, that we pay into the Social Security program so that when we retire, we'll have something to fall back on, to illegal immigrants who are living, working, and using all our hospitals, schools, etc. but not paying into the system themselves. Then our government is forcing us to pay for the very air we breath by taxing our energy. From the horses mouth, raising the taxes on gas and oil will force the Americans to buy green. Then the government has total disregard to the protection of our borders and refuses to help an American State in trouble. Now the government is trying to seize our personal retirement money.

I ask my Southern family, do you think an election of people who will go to Washington after they are elected will make a difference? We send honest, hard working people all the time to Washington. The problem is the town of Washington is totally corrupted and it doesn't take long before they get their hands on these honest folks and turn them. If you don't see this, you are blind. If you think an election with millions and millions of dollars involved not only from the States but for feign countries as well will help this country, you are wrong. China owns our debt! China owns the United States of America! But, yet, the government is still spending billions of dollars. So, where are they getting the money from? Who else is loaning money to America? I can easily bet it's Saudi Arabia. You think I'm wrong? They put a Moslem in the White House. They are moving their people onto our soil faster than you can say '"free."

The logic of this country is beyond me. I've studied what the men who started this country wanted and this isn't it. Jefferson said, need I remind you, that this country needs a war every 200 years to keep itself straight. I think we are a bit behind schedule. The Constitution has been destroyed, the federal government is totally corrupted, foreign countries own our debt, foreign illegal people have more rights than an American citizen. You can't say the puppet did all of this. Congress is mostly responsible. The Supreme Court is mostly responsible. Congress could impeach the puppet if they thought he was wrong, but they aren't because the puppet is just that, the puppet. He is just a lonely little man with no experience in the real world of American politics. He's just an instrument for the corruption of Washington and Chicago and, I should say, Hollywood. Yes, he's just a puppet, a stupid little Moslem who has no idea what type of game he's playing in. People think the world politics is corrupt, that's nothing compared to America's.

Think I'm wrong. Go read the Constitution. There's nothing the even resembles the original except for a few Bill of Rights. You tell me if there's an America left? I don't see one. My Confederate war flag went up this month on a 22-foot pole. Actions do speak louder than words.]

Democrats Questioning Own Party?

post by Sam Youngman on The Hill, Oct. 19, 2010

Some Democrats are beginning to question the party’s shifting strategies in the closing weeks of the campaign, particularly its recent focus on groups who are spending millions on behalf of Republicans. These veteran party strategists are raising doubts as to whether the attacks on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the group American Crossroads and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) will translate into crucial votes for Democrats come Nov. 2.

“I think attacking the outside money, and specifically attacking the Chamber, is of very limited value to the White House,” said former Rep. Martin Frost (D-Texas), who once headed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). “I don’t think it makes much difference in the election.” Democratic officials have increased their fire power on these groups, claiming they use foreign contributions for campaign ads—an allegation the groups strongly deny—and asking them to release the names of their donors. The effort is mainly pioneered by the White House and its political organization within the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

[I thought candidates couldn't accept foreign money for American political campaigns. Question—since when does foreign citizens have any input in American elections? A lot of Americans should be raising questions about this and demanding an explanation.]

One Democratic strategist, speaking on background so as not to anger the White House, said of attacking the Chamber, “That dog won’t hunt…In a different election year, this narrative and this messaging could work,” the strategist said. “This is not that election year. If the economy is the focus of the electorate, that’s where your message focus should be. I cannot convince the electorate that it’s sunny outside when it’s raining. So you’ve got to speak to their reality.” But “the foreign money lines of attack are all intended to be part of an overarching message about jobs and the economy,” said Brad Woodhouse, communications director for the DNC. “This discussion is not divorced at all from the economy; in fact, it’s absolutely relevant to it,” he said.

The focus on the spending by outside groups follows a sustained effort to tar Boehner, the would-be Speaker, if the GOP wins control of the House, as an ally of corporations who favor a return to some of the unpopular economic policies of the Bush administration. The Democrats argue these Bush-era policies led to the country’s economic troubles. Jamal Simmons, a Democratic strategist who has advocated an overarching economic message from the White House, said the new message is exactly what the party needs to turn out an unenthused base. “It’s campaign time, baby,” Simmons said. “The die is cast. There’s nothing that you can do between now and Election Day. What you can do is motivate your base to turn out. And talking about this big moneyed interest coming into buy the election really animates Democratic constituencies.”

Simmons noted a larger economic message would have allowed the puppet and the Democrats to be targeting independent voters at this stage of the game. But he argues the attacks on the Chamber can appeal to liberal Democrats and the surge voters from 2008 the White House is desperately trying to turn out this November. “The playing field would be wider,” Simmons said. “But, being where we are, you appeal to the people that you think will be responsive.” Frost, who led House Democrats’ congressional campaign efforts in 1996 and 1998, questioned whether those attacks were really effective on a race-by-race basis. “I know a little bit about congressional races,” he said. “I wouldn’t say it’s frustration, but I just don’t think they’re focusing on things that will move voters.”

The national party’s increased attacks on the Chamber could also put the few conservative Democrats who have won the business group’s backing in a tough spot. Rep. Glenn Nye (D-Va.) is “incredibly proud of the Chamber endorsement,” according to spokeswoman Leah Nelson. But Nye is “trying to stay out of the partisan fight” that has pitted his party against the Chamber and other groups, she said. Instead of focusing on Boehner or the Chamber, Frost advised, the White House and DNC might be better served by focusing on bread-and-butter issues like jobs and Social Security that play to the older, more established voters who tend to participate in midterm elections. “If I were still in charge of the DCCC, I’d be telling my candidates to eat that issue [Social Security] for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” he said. “Spending a lot of time on college campuses is not particularly helpful at this point.”

But Democrats are convinced their line of attack is working, pointing to a recent Bloomberg poll that showed “47 percent of respondents said that knowing a campaign was aided by advertising paid for by anonymous business groups would make them less likely to vote for that candidate, compared to 9 percent who said it would make them more likely to vote for that candidate….That’s because the American people want—and deserve—to know who is bankrolling the people they are being asked to vote for so they know if those candidates will be fighting for corporate special interests or middle class families when they get to Congress,” said an official at the DNC.

Death by Debt

post by Newsmax

[A curious thing. Correct me if I'm wrong—we were coming out of a war in the 1920's and guess what war does, create jobs to rebuild what the war destroyed! So, to me, this is a bit of a war-time strategy. Wouldn't you say? Now, Dwight D. Eisenhower—or should I say General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Need I say more. If you take these two examples, you would understand why the last couple of presidents have been forcing the United States to continue fighting in the desert. Destroy as much stuff as you can, hence, more jobs created to repair it all. The one big mistake made—the desert is not Europe! Is this war really a war? That's the question that should be asked. After studying the history of Islam verse Christianity, you could really make the assumption that what's going on today is not a war, but a crusade! After all, history does tend to repeat itself, now, doesn't it?]

The federal government reached an unhappy milestone with the announcement of the national debt figure for fiscal 2010—it marked the 53rd straight year the debt had increased over the previous year. As of Sept. 30, the last day of fiscal 2010, the national debt stood at $13,561,623,030,891—over $13.5 trillion—an increase of $1.65 trillion over fiscal 2009, according to data from the Bureau of the Public Debt, a division of the U.S. Treasury Department.

The Bureau’s “total public debt outstanding” includes the portion of the debt held by the public in the form of securities such as Treasury bonds, plus the portion in the form of special government securities held by elements of the federal government itself, such as the Social Security trust fund, according to CNSNews. The Treasury Department has borrowed money from the trust fund to pay government expenses not related to Social Security.

Between 1920 and 1930, the federal debt declined every year for 11 years. The last time the federal debt did not increase was in 1957, when Dwight Eisenhower was President. This year the debt stands at around $13.2 trillion more than the debt in 1957. During the federal government’s 53-year run of rising debt, the total has increased by an average of around $250 billion a year. This year’s increase of $1.65 trillion is the second largest rise in the nation’s history. The largest ever? Fiscal 2009’s $1.88 trillion.

Unions: Corrupt as Ever

post by Newsmax

[I haven't posted in a while because it's the "same o' stuff" over and over with no real action going on. Here is proof...Unions are no longer needed in the United States. They were needed when there were no labor laws, but, hey, there ARE labor laws now protecting American workers—have been for a very long time. Unions trap workers into believing they are there to help. They are not. They make our American workers pay them fees even when our American workers are out of work and broke—all the while getting rich themselves! Union leaders are bullies and out for controlled order. Don't believe me. Read! Then you'll know exactly what they are doing.]

The U.S. Postal Service is close to maxing out its $15 billion line of credit with the Treasury and could run out of operating cash by the end of the year. But its contract with the postal unions is preventing the USPS from implementing the cost reductions it needs to get its finances under control. Labor accounts for 80 percent of the USPS’s costs—the Service has the second largest civilian workforce in the nation, behind only Wal-Mart—and 85 percent of workers are protected by the collective bargaining agreement.

“The unions have become a giant anchor on an already sinking ship,” Tad DeHaven, a budget analyst at the Cato Institute, wrote in an article appearing on The Daily Caller. Last year the average postal worker received about $79,000 in total compensation, compared to $61,000 for the average private sector employee. But the union contracts “inhibit the flexibility required to efficiently manage the USPS workforce,” according to DeHaven. He cited the “no-layoff” provisions that protect most workers, which forces the USPS to lay off lower-cost part-time and temporary workers before it can fire a full-time employee.

Union contracts also make it difficult for the USPS to hire part-time workers, which could result in savings and give managers flexibility in dealing with fluctuations in workload. Only 13 percent of USPS employees are part-time, compared to 53 percent for UPS and 40 percent for FedEx. Despite the USPS’s difficulties, the American Postal Workers Union—which represents more than 200,000 workers—is in contract negotiations with the Service and union chief William Burrus insists a pay increase for his members is an “entitlement.” He said the union wants “more money, better benefits…The postal unions are likely betting that in a worst case financial scenario for the USPS, policymakers will tap taxpayers for a bailout. Unfortunately, if recent history is a guide, they’re probably correct.”

Sowell Puts Facts to It!

post by Thomas Sowell’s Political Fables on Perspectives

[Yes, many people are stating this, but Sowell has to have put it in the best order. Thanks Mr. Sowell...you rock!]

The puppet boldly proclaims, “The buck stops here!” But, whenever his policies are criticized, he acts as if the buck stopped with George W. Bush. The party line that we are likely to be hearing from now until the November elections is that the puppet inherited the big federal budget deficits and that he has to “clean up the mess” left in the economy by the Republicans. This may convince those who want to be convinced, but it will not stand up under scrutiny.

No President of the United States can create either a budget deficit or a budget surplus. All spending bills originate in the House of Representatives and all taxes are voted into law by Congress. Democrats controlled both houses of Congress before the puppet became president. The deficit he inherited was created by the Congressional Democrats, including the puppet, who did absolutely nothing to oppose the runaway spending. He was one of the biggest of the big spenders.

The last time the federal government had a budget surplus, Bill Clinton was president, so it was called “the Clinton surplus.” But Republicans controlled the House of Representatives, where all spending bills originate, for the first time in 40 years. It was also the first budget surplus in more than a quarter of a century. The only direct power that any president has that can affect deficits and surpluses is the power to veto spending bills. President Bush did not veto enough spending bills but the puppet and his fellow Democrats in control of Congress were the ones who passed the spending bills.

Today, with the puppet in the White House, allied with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in charge in Congress, the national debt is a bigger share of the national output than it has been in more than half a century. And its share is projected to continue going up for years to come, becoming larger than national output in 2012. Having created this scary situation, the puppet now says, “Don’t give in to fear. Let’s reach for hope.” The voters reached for hope when they elected the puppet. The fear comes from what he has done since taking office. “The worst thing we could do is to go back to the very same policies that created this mess in the first place,” he said recently. “In November, you’re going to have that choice.”

Another political fable is that the current economic downturn is due to not enough government regulation of the housing and financial markets. But it was precisely the government regulators, under pressure from politicians, who forced banks and other lending institutions to lower their standards for making mortgage loans. These risky loans, and the defaults that followed, were what set off a chain reaction of massive financial losses that brought down the whole economy.

Was this due to George W. Bush and the Republicans? Only partly. Most of those who pushed the lowering of mortgage lending standards were Democrats—notably Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Christopher Dodd, though too many Republicans went along. At the heart of these policies were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who bought huge amounts of risky mortgages, passing the risk on from the banks that lent the money (and made the profits) to the taxpayers who were not even aware that they would end up paying in the end.

When President Bush said in 2004 that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be reined in, 76 members of the House of Representatives issued a statement to the contrary. These included Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Charles Rangel. If we are going to talk about “the policies that created this mess in the first place,” let’s at least get the facts straight and the names right. The current policies of the puppet administration are a continuation of the same reckless policies that brought on the current economic problems—all in the name of “change.” Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are still sacred cows in Washington, even though they have already required the biggest bailouts of all. Why? Because they allow politicians to direct vast sums of money where it will do politicians the most good, either personally or in terms of buying votes in the next election.

Now Taxing Bank Transactions!

post by Lee Hoecherl on the Standard Examiner July 2010

The puppet’s finance team is recommending a transaction tax. His plan is to sneak it in after the November election to keep it under the radar. This is a 1% tax on all transactions at any financial institution i.e. Banks, Credit Unions, etc. Any deposit you make, or move around within your account, i. e. transfer to, will have a 1% tax charged. If your pay check or your Social Security or whatever is direct deposit, 1% tax charged. If you hand carry a check in to deposit, 1% tax charged. If you take cash in to deposit, 1% tax charged. This is from the man who promised that if you make under $250,000 per year, you will not see one penny of new tax. Keep your eyes and ears open, you will be amazed at what you learn. Some will say aw it’s just 1% are you kidding me it’s a 1% tax increase across the board…remember once the tax is there they can raise it at will.

Banning Light Bulbs?

post by Newsmax Sept 5, 2010

Legislation outlawing ordinary incandescent light bulbs in the European Union has produced an unexpected wave of panicked buying as the ban takes effect. And that could be a harbinger of things to come in the United States, which has also passed a law that will ban Thomas Edison’s trusty old invention. Last year 100-watt incandescent bulbs were banned in the E.U., and on Sept. 1 it also became illegal to import or manufacture 75-watt bulbs. The move is intended to force Europeans to switch mostly to compact fluorescent lights (CPLs), which use less electricity.

In the United States, President George W. Bush in 2007 signed into law a bill ordering the phase-out of incandescent light bulbs beginning with the 100-watt bulb in 2012 and ending with the 40-watt light in 2014.

[The light bulb does not make any difference in climate. I'm not a scientist but come on. This is just another step toward people control. Why don't the D.C. area start downsizing its people and light use. I bet you go into any government building and you almost or have to wear a sweater in the summer time! The White House alone has how many cooks, how many maids, how many staff members it doesn't need?!]

While CFLs do use about 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and last far longer, they cost significantly more and some users claim they give off a sickly light, according to The Telegraph in Britain. They also take longer to turn on, can flicker, and have even been blamed for giving people headaches and skin rashes. And CFLs contain small amounts of highly toxic mercury, which creates problems for users when they break or need to be disposed of after they burn out. So, sales of CFLs have been disappointing—while demand for the incandescent bulbs has been soaring. Packages of 75-watt bulbs have been flying off the shelves in Finland as “customers filled their closets, garages and attics with lighting supplies for the long term,” The Washington Times reported in an article headlined “Europe’s light-bulb socialism.”

“London’s Daily Mail gave away 25,000 100-watt bulbs as a prize in a January 2009 contest. Der Spiegel reported that German customers left hardware stores with carts jammed with enough incandescent bulbs to last 20 years.” The Telegraph reported “The panic buying of light bulbs is expected to get worse when 60-watt bulbs are banned next year and all incandescent bulbs are phased out by 2012.” But there is hope yet for those who oppose the ban, The Times disclosed. Two years ago, the minority party in New Zealand made canceling a planned ban a campaign issue. The party won national office, and overturned the ban.

Puppet’s Stimulus Cost More Than Iraq War

post by Mark Tapscott in Washington Examiner

Expect to hear a lot about how much the Iraq war cost in the days ahead from Democrats worried about voter wrath against their unprecedented spending excesses. The meme is simple—The economy is in a shambles because of Bush’s economic policies and his war in Iraq. As American Thinker‘s Randall Hoven points out, that’s the message being peddled by lefties as diverse as former Clinton political strategist James Carville, economist Joseph Stiglitz, and The Nation’s Washington editor, Christopher Hayes. The key point in the mantra is an alleged $3 trillion cost for the war. Well, it was expensive to be sure, in both blood and treasure, but, as Hoven notes, the CBO puts the total cost at $709 billion. To put that figure in the proper context of overall spending since the war began in 2003, Hoven provides this handy CBO chart showing the portion of the annual deficit attributable to the conflict—But there is much more to be said of this data and Hoven does an admirable job of summarizing the highlights of such an analysis.

  • The puppet’s stimulus, passed in his first month in office, will cost more than the entire Iraq War—more than $100 billion (15%) more.
  • Just the first two years of the puppet’s stimulus cost more than the entire cost of the Iraq War under President Bush, or six years of that war.

Unemployment Map

This is a powerful visual aid to show what the puppet and his policies have done to employment in America!

Very sobering and enlightening. Somebody spent a lot of time breaking this down by every county in the country. Review this Unemployment map of the United States. This is hard to believe! I had to review this map a couple of times to grasp the enormity of  it. Displayed this way sure brings the perspective up close and personal. This is scary. If you have a job, be thankful!

Be sure to click the PLAY button in the middle of the map and take note of the dates above the U.S. map as it advances month by month!
